All the Tales of the Flat Earth are favorites of mine, and The Wars of Vis is a wonderful. if you read the book, you'll know what i mean. Volkaaver is a good one-off, as are Kill the Dead and Mortal Suns. On a side note, for anyone who's seen "The Sixth Sense" i am absolutely CONVINCED the person who wrote that screenplay has read this book and swiped thematic and detail elements from it for the script. Satisfying and dark, these stories strike one in the dimmest most sensual place where magic is at its best. complications along the way begin to reveal an essential truth about Dro even he is unable to see until a crisis arises which precipitates a shocking realization. Parl Dro is our intrepid, if essentially dark, hero out to fulfill his destiny and destroy a legendary ghost town. The second tale is called "Kill the Dead" and is essentially a ghost story with a wicked twist.
the language is evocative and beautiful, there is much reflection on the role of religion and the nature of humanity. She is also the author of another Overlook fantasy series, The Secret Books of Paradys.

Tanith Lee is one of the leading fantasy authors writing today. The first novella is called "Sabella: Or The Bloodstone" and follows the adventures of an irresistible woman on an unavoidable journey. i have read it no less than 30 times, and can recite the first page of the book to myself from memory. Actually a hardbound pairing of 2 longish short novellas, this is my favorite book of all time.
